“DOES THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT READY TO BE ONE OF THE N7W OF NATURE?”

To date, the Philippines have four nominees for the New 7 Wonders of Nature namely, the Tubbataha Reef, the Chocolate Hills, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, and the Mayon Volcano. Three of them are already in the top seven ranking and the other one is close enough to get the seventh place.

I got something in my head that swirling around and bother me. This is my idea and my opinion regarding the Philippines being nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. I’m not against the promoter of the New 7 Wonders of Nature to make it clear. What I’m into is to the Philippine Government.

Indeed, being one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature is a prestige. Who in the world would not be proud of it? I’m sure a lot of Filipinos in the world are proud of this already.

The big question is “DOES THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT READY TO BE ONE OF THE N7W OF NATURE?” Maybe yes, maybe no!

Here are some thoughts and ideas to ponder. First, the Philippines will have a large number and variety of tourists. Good for us Filipinos! A large number of tourists mean more jobs, more earnings, and good dollar reserve, in other words good economy through tourism. But what about lodging and transportation for this tourists? This also means rise of buildings, hotels, and inns which leads to conversion and selling of farms; for the transportation importation of large numbers of vehicles which leads to noise and air pollution. Second, more tourists means more food productions (bottled waters, instant noodles, packed foods, and other food requires packaging), more food productions means more garbage. Question is where will the government dump this garbage? I don’t know where but Manila is already having problems on to where will they dump their garbage. There’s a solution for this, adopt one of the Japanese technology “degradable plastic”. Lastly, sustainability and preservation. How long can the government sustain and preserve these nature’s beauty and treasure?

Being one of the N7W of Nature is a prestige and something to be proud of. Be proud and be responsible these are Gods gift to us.
